How Can I Conserve Water At Home?
Water is one of our most precious resources. It is also a resource that most people living in modern societies take for granted. When we turn on the faucet, we don’t think about how much water we are using or how we can conserve it. So, how can we do our part and conserve water at home?
The first step is to be more vigilant about the water that you do use. Do you leave the water running while you are brushing your teeth or do you take overly-long showers? Practices such as these may be contributing to our decreasing water supply. Pay attention to how much water you are using. Try to make your showers and baths as short as possible and don’t ever leave the water running.
The second step is to find ways to conserve even more water. For instance, instead of filling up your whole sink with water to wash the dishes, try filling up a large bowl with soapy water and another with clean water. Wash your dishes in the first bowl and rinse them in the second bowl. You’d be surprised at how much water you can save this way! Also, when upgrading appliances, look for those that use less water and are energy star rated. Many new dishwashers use a fraction of the water that older appliances do.
Finally, look for ways to save and reuse water. Place rain barrels in your yard to catch rain for watering your garden. Instead of throwing out your dishwater, use it on your garden as well (as long as you use safe, eco-friendly dishsoap). With just a little effort you can make a big difference in the water conservation effort. The best part is that you will save yourself some money too!You thought this was good?
